A group of Acadiana students have developed a way to continue learning amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Local robotics team 3616 Phenomena is participating in a program called FIRST at Home, which provides at home/school STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) resources and activities to K-12 students who are at home during this time. The program was developed by global robotics program FIRST Robotics.

3616 Phenomena, which is comprised of public, private, and home-school high school students throughout the parish, decided to take part in the program and share it with as many people as possible.

Comeaux High School senior Hailey Menard says the skills learned as part of the robotics team have helped her in various ways outside of the group.

"[With] the techniques and skills I have been able to learn, I've been able to branch out of my public speaking skills and use my writing to tell people more about robotics. It has influenced my school writing as well, and being able to share the benefits of the team and every wonderful aspect of it has been rewarding," she explained.
