A relief fundraiser was held Saturday night for those affected by Hurricane Laura.

The event was held at Parc de Lafayette on Jefferson St. in Lafayette, and featured a drop off point for donations, dancing, and live music.

Donations will be distributed to Catholic Charities of Acadiana; items needed include water, snacks, insect repellent, trash bags, and other non-perishable items.

Earlier in the afternoon, attendees were able to participate in a safe, socially distanced hip hop workshop taught by Kabuki Dancers & Redd from CyberGang dance crew. All proceeds from the class are going to the Lake Charles dance crew CyberGang.

"Lake Charles is still being repaired and being rebuilt. It's going to take a long time to get it rebuilt," explained William Ridaux, who was displaced from Lake Charles during Laura. "This spreads the word out, it gets people's attention, and it helps the city out a lot. It helps the city of Lake Charles a whole lot, and it helps the state of Louisiana out."

The event also featured live music. Masks and social distancing were enforced and sand sanitizer was available.

The fundraiser lasted until 9 p.m.
