The UL Ragin' Cajuns® Women's Basketball team hosted a clinic for the Down Syndrome Association of Acadiana today.

The Basketball Mini Clinic was held this afternoon at the Earl K. Long Gym on UL's campus.

Participants of all ages with Down syndrome, along with their siblings under 12 years were invited to attend the event. The kids were given instruction in basic skills, including dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounds and layups.

"Every year we team up with UL Lady Ragin Cajuns and we have this basketball clinic, said Molly Guidry, media coordiantor for DSAA. "They have a good time, learn some new skills, show off some skills they have. There's just some inclusion and acceptance that is going on here, and promoting awareness."

Guidry said when the kids accomplish something on their own, they feel great - just like anyone would.

"People with Down syndrome are just like everybody else. They like to do their best and learn new things," Guidry said.
