Public Masses suspended for the Diocese of Lafayette

The Diocese of Lafayette has announced the suspension of all public Masses in the diocese.

The suspension will last until April 13, 2020 and affects weekend and weekday services.

Bishop Douglas Deshotel says that Funerals, with immediate family, are to be celebrated with graveside services only. A memorial mass is to be scheduled at a later date.

Weddings are to be celebrated according to the Rite for celebrating marriage outside of Mass with immediate family only. Engaged couples may wish to consider rescheduling their weddings if possible.

All Confirmations will be rescheduled for dates after August 1, 2020. All parish gatherings Lenten Missions, are also to be suspended until further notice.

Deshotel says that though public Masses have been suspended, the obligation to praying and sanctifying Sundays and Holy Week (beginning Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday) as a sacred time.

The Diocese has asked that Parishes make arrangements for parishioners to pick up blessed palms beginning at 5:00 pm on the eve of Palm Sunday and a locally scheduled time during the day of Palm Sunday.

Viewing Mass remotely can still be done.
