Moncus Park is providing an update on the number of projects completed and currently underway at the park located on Johnston Street in Lafayette.

Since breaking ground in 2018, several projects have been completed. Among them a new 4-acre lake, over two miles of new trails, a dog park, tree plantings, and infrastructure and utilities for future developments.

Funds have now been secured to move forwards with additional elements of the park and include a playground, treehouse, amphitheater, and Louisiana-themed interactive water play.

Those elements will be spearheaded by local and world-renowned talent including Duplantis Design Group, Fluidity Desgin Consultants and Nelson Treehouse of Animal Planet's 'Treehouse Masters' TV show fame.

The design process for Phase 2 elements has recently launched, according to the park, and construction is expected to start before the end of 2020.

"We are so excited to bring so much talent to this next phase of work in Moncus Park, especially with the team having so many strong local ties. We can't wait to bring these additional features to life for Acadiana," said Moncus Park's executive director, Elizabeth Brooks. " In these unprecedented times, I think we all have a greater appreciation for the importance parks and open spaces play in our community."
