LAFAYETTE, La. - The identity of a body found Friday in a coulee has been identified as Kao Wokoma, 36, of Lafayette.

Wokoma was found by an LCG work crew around 1:00 pm along Hillside Drive in Lafayette.

The crew was cleaning a nearby coulee when they picked up what they believed was garbage and put it into a nearby dumpster. Shortly after, they realized something was wrong, discovered the body, and called 911, according to Sgt. Wayne Griffin, spokesperson for the Lafayette Police Department.

"As soon as they realized it was a deceased male, they contacted law enforcement," said Sgt. Wayne Griffin with LPD. "This is a very quiet neighborhood, so you can imagine when we get a call like this in this area, we're a little surprised."

The death is currently being treated as suspicious.

An investigation is ongoing.
