A pet supply giveaway is being held Saturday in Lafayette.

The supplies are being distributed to rescues, shelters or anyone needing help with pet food, leashes, collars, flea medicine and more.

The event will take place at the Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center located at 613 Pont Des Mouton. It started at 9:30 am and will continue until all 3,500 pounds of supplies are gone.

Cajun Coast Search & Rescue, Spay Bay and Bonnie's Purpose are the sponsors of the event.

Tony Wade, Commander of Cajun Coast Search & Rescue, explained that the event is to help out those in the area and make sure the four-legged residents are taken care of, too.

He said they're trying to "help all the animal shelters and rescues that lost everything, the community as well. We understand with COVID and the back-to-back storms people are just in a bind, and we want to make sure their pets are taken care of. Dog food and cat food, if we can do that by giving that kind of stuff, then it's worth it."
