LAFAYETTE, La. - Our Lady of Lourdes Women's & Children's Hospital has announced the birth of their first baby of the New Year.
Mya Deranae Wardlaw was born at 12:30 am on January 1, 2020, weighing six pounds 12 ounces, and 19 inches long.
New mom Deya Jones says her due date was supposed to be January 8, 2020 but Mya had other plans. Deya's labor started at 1:00 p.m. Monday afternoon and lasted an exhausting 36 hours. Just after midnight Wednesday morning doctor's decided it was time for Mya to come out.
"We ended up doing a C-section, which kinda scared me, I cried but I had to do what I had to do, you know, for my child," Jones explained.
New dad Delale Wardlaw finally got to hold his daughter for the first time. Jones described his reaction after Mya was born saying, "he talked to her throughout the whole pregnancy, if he was talking to her she had a big smile on her face which was so cute."
For these high school sweethearts, it is definitely a happy new year.
