A 23-year-old man has been arrested after a stabbing incident on Tuesday night in Lafayette.

Police say the incident happened around 6:30 pm on October 13 in the 300 block of Macklyn Street.

Upon arrival, police say officers learned that the victim had been transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries that he sustained in the altercation.

During their investigation, police learned that 23-year-old Omar Taylor allegedly got into a verbal altercation with the victim. He then reportedly produced a knife and struck the victim multiple times.

Taylor was later located by officers and transported to the police department for interviewing.

Police say following the interview, Taylor was booked on a charge of Attempted First-Degree Murder due to the victim being 65 years or older.

He was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
