A large offshore survey boat sustained major fire damage Saturday during a commercial fire in Scott.

Firefighters responded at 6:15 p.m. to the fire in the 200 block of Jacob's Run. Once there, firefighters observed heavy smoke emitting from a large commercial building.

Responders forced entry into the structure and located the offshore survey boat on fire. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the boat before it spread to the building.

The fire was determined to be accidental in nature, caused by electrical short.

Fire chief Chad Sonnier said the boat suffered major damage, but damage to the structure was minimal.

Lafayette, Duson, and Judice Fire Departments responded to assist with the fire.
