Ochsner Lafayette General to implement visitor restrictions due to COVID-19

Due to a significant increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations and increase in community positivity rate, Ochsner Lafayette General will be restricting its visitor policy.

The updated visitor restrictions go into effect on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at 5 a.m. Patients will be limited to one visitor per patient at all Ochsner Lafayette General facilities, and facilities will be following masking protocol.

Families are encouraged to use alternative means of communication such as Facetime, Skype, or phones located in patient rooms.

Below is further information regarding visitor restrictions for patient type -

Non-COVID Patient Type - Unique, Asymptomatic Visitors will have armband with date/ sticker

  • Surgery patients: Patient identifies one (1) asymptomatic visitor for duration of stay; visitor may or may not be able to wait in waiting areas due to social distancing limitations; visitor may be in room with patient; visitor should leave phone # to be contacted if waiting in car
  • ED patients: Patient identifies one (1) asymptomatic visitor for duration of stay when patient is in room; visitor may or may not be able to wait in waiting areas due to social distancing limitations; visitor should leave phone # to be contacted if waiting in car
  • Inpatients: Patient identifies one (1) asymptomatic visitor for duration of stay; subjective symptom screen daily in room or at screening station upon initial re-entry
  • Labor/ Delivery/ Mother/ Baby: Patient identifies one (1) asymptomatic visitor for duration of stay; subjective symptom screen daily in room or at screening station upon initial re-entry
  • Peds/ NICU: Patient allowed two (2) asymptomatic visitors for duration of stay; subjective symptom screen daily upon initial re-entry
  • ICU: Patient allowed one (1) asymptomatic visitor during ICU visiting hours only; 9-10 a.m., 1-2 p.m. and 5-6 p.m.; waiting in waiting room allowed for emergent purposes only; subjective symptom screen daily as above
  • Clinics/ Outpatients: One (1) visitor allowed at this time

COVID patients: Only at end-of-life circumstances as previously defined
