Kiwanis of Lafayette is forming a new club in the western part of the parish, and organizers held their first meeting Thursday night.
The meeting was held at 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express on the Frontage Road in Scott.
Organizers say the meeting had a "great turnout." Those who were unable to make it can send the club a message on Facebook for more on future projects and meetings. Anyone is welcome to join.
"Come help us change the future of children in Scott and around the world. They need us — now!" the group said on Facebook.
"The community of Scott is very service oriented," explained Troy Bergeron, President of the Kiwanis Club of Scott. "We have some tremendous service oriented clubs and we do a lot for many different people, but we're so attracted to this Kiwanis piece, simply because we want to focus on the children."
