LAFAYETTE, La. - There's a new app to help keep families safe online from sexual predators.

The Lafayette Sheriff's Association along with offender watch launched the Safe Virtual Neighborhood on Wednesday.

The app monitors your child's Snapchat activity, text, emails, location and phone calls and then sends an alert to parents if a registered sex offender contacts the child.

OffenderWatch, creator of Safe Virtual Neighborhood, is a sex offender registry management software and community notification solution for law enforcement. Safe Virtual Neighborhood is available now for all Louisiana residents to download. The app costs $9.99 per year to monitor devices for an entire family.

"It needs to be important and that what we're going to do believe me folks when you get a text that says your child has been contacted by a sex offender you need to immediately contact your local law enforcment office and we made a way of doing that very very easy," Mike Cormaci, President of Offenderwatch.
