Neighbors who live in River Gate's community were surprised to see their streets filled with cop cars Tuesday morning. Samir Elhelou has lived in the area for over two decades and says it's always been peaceful and quiet.
"I was looking out the window at 8:30 am, and I saw a lot of police cars in my neighborhood," said Samir Elhelou.
Elhelou was saddened to hear a nearby neighbor indentified as 74-year old Mary Guillory was found dead right next door.
"It was shocking to me. I was really very emotional. I mean, it's so sad to hear somebody died in this cold weather."
Guillory is believed to have wandered from her residence overnight during a medical episode possibly related to dementia.
"The lady seemed to be walking and got lost, and she fell and died on his driveway."
According to the Lafayette Police Department's spokesperson, the cause of death is still not confirmed as this is an ongoing investigation.
