NAACP chapter hosts runoff candidate forum

The Lafayette Parish NAACP is helping to inform voters ahead of the runoff elections in the parish.

A forum was held Thursday night that highlighted the candidates in the race for City Marshal and in the races for Judge in Districts B and D.

The event was held at Club 425 on Jefferson Street and was broken into three segments, one for each race.

Attendees heard from Kip Judice and Reggie Thomas, candidates for City Marshal; Travis Broussard and Valerie Garrett, candidates for Judge in District B; and Royale Colbert and Amanda Martin, candidates for Judge in District D.

Organizers say events like this one help boost participation in the election process.

"The NAACP has always had candidate forums," said President of the Lafayette Parish NAACP Marja Broussard. "We work hard to get people registered to vote, then we try to move them from registration to participation. In participation, they have to be informed, and that is really what this is all about."

If you missed the forum, the NAACP live-streamed the event on their Facebook page. You can watch that here.
