Move the Mindset is inviting the public to a Juneteenth Rally in Lafayette on Friday, June 19.

The rally will begin at 6 p.m. at the Alfred Mouton statue on the corner of Jefferson Street and Lee Avenue.

Speaking at the rally will be MTM President Frederick Prejean, NAACP Lafayette Parish Chapter President Marja Broussard, retired educator Patricia Colbert Cormier, and several others.

Organizers say the rally seeks to honor the holiday while continuing to push for reforms in criminal justice and law enforcement.

"Juneteenth is a day of celebration. It represents the beginning of the end of slavery but does not address the oppression of domination. Our journey to justice has not yet been reached," said Prejean.
