A motivational speaker was in town today to speak to SLCC students and the public.

Steve Perry gave a presentation to SLCC students at noon on campus and to the public at 6 p.m. at Progressive Baptist Church in Lafayette. The evening presentation was open to the public.

His visit is part of SLCC's Center for Minority Excellence's 2020 African American History of Excellence Series.

Perry has a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Rhode Island, a Master's of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania and an education doctorate from the University of Hartford.

"We thought it would be fitting to brin Dr. Perry because he's an educator, author and speaker, and really speak to the heart and soul as it pertains to what we should be doing during our educational journey and that is whatever we start we should finish," said Tonya Bolden-Ball, the CME program manager.
