A suspect has been arrested in connection to a house fire on Olivier Street in Lafayette.

The Lafayette Fire Department says that at 7:41 Wednesday morning, firefighters responded to a vacant residential fire at 612 Olivier Street.

Heavy smoke was coming from the rear of the home. The porch was also on fire and spreading to the interior, according to firefighters.

Emergency crews entered the structure to search for any occupants. It was not occupied.

Investigators say it was determined that the fire was intentionally set on the rear porch.

"It appeared as though homeless individuals had been hanging out on the premise and sleeping on the porches at night."

Investigators were able to identify the individual suspected of setting the fire. 43-year-old Bradley Thibodeaux was arrested and booked on a charge of Simple Arson.
