As of noon on October 10, about 31,000 Lafayette Utilities System customers are without power. At 6 a.m., LUS reported that 40,000 customers were without power.

Officials say they started with damage assessment. The next steps will be repairs of transmission lines and substations, then work moves to main lines that serve critical facilities such as hospitals and then on to transformers that feed our residential customers.

LUS and mutual aid crews will work to restore services to the greatest number of customers as soon as possible, LUS offiicals say, and they ask that every one please keep a safe distance from the crews working in the area as a safety measure for them and the public.

To report an outage, call (337) 291-9200 or if you see a downed power line or equipment, call (337) 291-5700. Remember do not touch or drive over any fallen power lines.
