About two days after Hurricane Laura struck Southwest Louisiana, crews from Lafayette Utilities System (LUS) and Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) headed west to assist in electric restoration efforts.
A combined crew of 25 linemen and 18 trucks left early on Saturday, August 29, for Vinton, just west of Lake Charles. Now, just shy of two weeks later, the crews are returning home after restoring power to the city.
According to a post on LUS' Facebook page, the crews have been working 16-hour days, fixing poles and lines, repairing transformers, and installing a 5000kV transformer.
Residents gathered along the streets of Vinton to thank the returning crews, as seen in a video posted by LUS.
