Lafayette Utilities System (LUS) is working with Utility Metering Solutions (UMS) and the Lafayette Fire Department on a controlled, contained burn to remove trees at a sewer treatment plant on Lajaunie Road near Janel Drive, LUS officials say.
The controlled burn will begin June 15, 2021, and will last two to four weeks depending on the weather, LUS says.
We reached out to the Fire Department about the announcement.
Only LCG or an entity of LCG (LUS) can burn for a city project according to LCG ordinance and amendments to the fire codes, we're told.
There are stipulations as to how, when, and where they burn the trees according to Lafayette Fire Department Fire Codes and DEQ guidelines, fire officials say. There is an ordinance that prohibits any disposal of solid waste otherwise.
The Fire Department is notified of the project(s) and provide guidance; that way, if there are any complaints the LFD knows what is happening, officials say.
