LPSS to discuss calendar proposals for next two school years

On Wednesday, the Lafayette Parish School Board will discuss the approval of calendars for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years.

The start of the 2020-2021 school year would begin on August 13, 2020, according to the proposed calendar.

Holiday breaks would be as follows:

  • Labor Day - 1 day - September 7, 2020.
  • Election Day - 1 day - November 3, 2020.
  • Thanksgiving - 5 days - November 23, 2020 to November 27, 2020.
  • Christmas - 10 days - December 21, 2020 to January 1, 2021.
  • Martin Luther King Day - 1 day - January 18, 2021.
  • Mardi Gras - 3 days - February 15, 2021 to February 17, 2021.
  • Easter/Spring break - 6 days - Good Friday, April 2, 2021 to April 9, 2021.
  • Memorial Day falls after end of school year - May 31, 2021.

The 2021-2022 calendar has a proposed start date of August 12, 2021. The holidays for this calendar are below.

  • Fall Break - 1 day - October 18, 2021.
  • Thanksgiving - 5 days - November 22, 2021 to November 26, 2021.
  • Christmas - 10 days - December 20, 2021 to December 31, 2021.
  • Martin Luther King Day - 1 day - January 17, 2022.
  • Mardi Gras - 3 days - February 28, 2022 to March 2, 2022.
  • Easter/Spring break - 6 days - Good Friday, April 15, 2022 to April 22, 2022.
  • Memorial Day falls after end of school year - May 30, 2022.

Both calendars have 173 days of instruction with teacher days totaling 182.

LPSS says the The calendar committee met with principals, teacher groups, district staff, and parents to develop calendars for the next two school years. On Tuesday, January 7, 2020, the committee met and developed the two proposed calendars.
