John V. Mouton, a longtime principal, has been named director of employee services for the Lafayette Parish School System.
Mouton will work as part of the district leadership team to oversee the employee services department and guide the human resources and insurance benefits operations. Responsibilities include the oversight of retirement and other employee benefits and compensation, employee recruitment, and onboarding of new staff. He is also tasked with focusing on diversity and inclusion, retention of top talent, and investigating employee grievances or complaints.
For the past nine years, Mouton served as the principal of Broussard Middle School. He has been employed with the Lafayette Parish School System for 19 years and has held previous positions as an assistant principal, LEAP remediation principal, and teacher. During his tenure, Mouton has been recognized as the Lafayette Parish School System 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2020 Middle School Principal of the Year and has represented the district in the Louisiana Department of Education’s Principal of the Year competition.
In 2018, the Louisiana State Department of Education recognized him as a state semi-finalist for Principal of the Year for his outstanding administrator capabilities and his positive impact on students. Mouton serves a member of the TBS Bias Review Committee, Southern Association of Colleges, Schools Commission on Elementary and Middle Schools (SACS), LELI Leadership Induction National Institute of School Leadership, and has achieved Leader in Me Lighthouse status. He holds a Masters of Education in Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
