The Lafayette Parish School System conducted a crisis drill at L.J. Alleman Fine Arts Magnet Academy located on Roselawn Blvd.

This exercise was conducted with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office to train LPSS administrators prior to the start of the school year.

More than 100 school administrators received active threat training from LPSO’s Training Unit, they say.

Administrators with the Lafayette Parish School Resource Officer Unit, SWAT team members, and Sheriff’s deputies were also on hand to help simulate the scenario and law enforcement’s response to an active threat.

According to Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office press release, administrators were put to the test.

Their response was in line with the training deputies had instilled in the school leaders.

LPSS personnel acted quickly, prioritized the safety of everyone in the facility, and executed what could be life-saving measures for themselves and their students in the event of a legitimate active threat on campus.

Both the Sheriff’s Office and LPSS say they are committed to the continuous training and evolution of best practices necessary to ensure the safety and security of every student and staff member in schools across Lafayette Parish.

No unauthorized visitors was allowed on campus.
