The Lafayette Parish School Board meets in regular session today.

The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. in the board room on Chaplin Drive. You can also watch it livestreamed here.

On the agenda are two items that would revise how the system is approaching the pandemic. One would revise the emergency declaration the board passed back in April, and another would create a new emergency policy that gives the superintendent authority to make changes to the system's plans when needed for safety.

"In the development and implementation of necessary administrative regulations and procedures for safely reopening schools and for maintaining the safety of employees, students, and others when schools are open during a health emergency, the Superintendent and staff shall rely upon the practices, guidelines, and suggestions of the Louisiana Department of Education in coordination with the Louisiana Department of Health. The Superintendent is authorized to develop and revise plans for reopening schools or maintaining the safety of employees, students, and others and to make required submissions to governmental authorities with regard thereto," the proposed new policy states.

If the superintendent had to make any changes or new rules, she would report them to the board at the next meeting, the policy states.

Also on the agenda are items that would approve bids for kitchen equipment, stadium light repairs at Lafayette High, toilet paper, the Carencro Middle bus canopy, a classroom wing planned at Edgar Martin Middle and paper supplies.
