Police release image of possible suspect in fatal 9th Street shooting

UPDATE: The Lafayette Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating the suspect involved in a fatal shooting Thursday on 9th Street.

Lafayette Police say the suspect is described as a black male wearing a blue and white or camouflage shirt, white jogger pants that had a black stripe down the side, a black beanie, and dark colored shoes.

UPDATE: Lafayette Police say the victim in a Thursday shooting on 9th Street has died.

The victim was identified as 26-year-old Derrick Williams of Lafayette. He died as of a result of his injuries, police say.

The suspect has not been identified.

Lafayette police say that on January 14, 2021, officers responded to the 1000 Blk of 9th Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers say they learned that the victim was transported by an acquaintance to a local hospital.

Witnesses told responding officers that the suspect fled on foot from the scene.

The victim, now identified as Wiliams, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his lower abdomen.

This is an ongoing investigation.
