Longtime Pelican Park manager and Carencro Parks Director Jim Thibodeaux has retired from the position.
Thibodeaux led the park through expansion from just four fields to a complex that includes an all-purpose green area.
During his tenure, the park launched the popular "Mercredi Series," and in 2019 the park hosted Glow in the Cro, an event the mayor called "the largest and most successful event that Carencro has ever seen, including Mardi Gras." Thibodeaux also saw the purchase and repurpose of the Louisiana Hockeyplex to the Carencro Indoor Sports Complex.
Thibodeaux now plans to be an Uber to his grandchildren, but his wife Sheila has different plans - "He will be cleaning the house," she said.
Lafayette Parks and Recreation veteran Frank Wittenberg took over the position from Thibodeaux. The position oversees operations of Pelican Park and the Carencro Indoor Sports Complex.
Carencro Mayor Glen Brasseaux has proclaimed November 10 Jim Thibodeaux Day, and has presented Thibodeaux with a key to the city.
