R. Hamilton "Hammy" Davis, a longtime Acadiana real estate agent and former attorney, died Thursday after battling brain cancer, our media partners at The Advocate report.
Davis was a founder of Scout Real Estate in Lafayette. He graduated from LSU and Tulane law school and practiced as an attorney for years before becoming a real estate agent.
He was also very active in the Acadiana community, involved with United Way of Acadiana, Lafayette Education Board, Acadiana Food Hub, and more.
Acadiana Food Hub director Zack McMath told The Advocate that Davis "played a big role" in establishing the organization.
"We would not have the food hub without Hammy Davis," he told the paper. "He had the vision. Hammy has been in the business for a long time. They had space available, did the build out and did the kitchen. It was something the city wouldn't do and the nonprofits couldn't do. He understood the vision, and to some degree he always has."
KATC's Scott Brazda knew Davis and called him, "One of the finest human beings I ever knew."
Funeral arrangements have not yet been released.
