A local group is collecting supplies for the homeless.

Sunday afternoon, they were collecting hygiene supplies at 600 E. Pinhook.

Ashmay Seeds of Abraham, in partnership with Real Estate Professionals of Acadiana (REPA), are assembling bags of needed items that will be given to the homeless.

They're hoping to put donations like toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, snacks, hand sanitizers and masks into "blessing bags" for homeless people.

Volunteers say they're working on the project because in order to be blessed, you have to be a blessing.

"We're going through some turbulent times right now, you know with COVID and a lot of stuff that's going on right now... support those without a support system," said Vernon Jenkins, president of the Real Estate Professionals of Acadiana.

If you'd like to help, you can contact the group here.
