A "Listen and Learn Lafayette" community listening session was held today at the George Dupuis Recreation Center.

The event was hosted by The Urban League of Louisiana and Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus (LLBC) members Representative Vincent Pierre, Representative Terry Landry Sr., Representative Dustin Miller, and Senator Gerald Boudreaux, as well as other LLBC members.

The event's purpose was to meet with both young and experienced leaders from all sectors living in and around Lafayette to hear views on key issues that impact African American youth and families.

The listening session is part of a statewide listening tour, and will inform content for the upcoming inaugural Empowerment and Policy Conference. The conference is cohosted by the Urban League and LLBC and is designed to examine systems, influence policy decisions, and enact changes that will positively impact the African American community.

The groups urged community members to voice their top concerns and share their visions for equity and inclusion in the future.

The 2019 Empowerment and Policy Conference will take place September 27th-28th at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans.
