The Lafayette Fire Department says a vehicle attempting to evade police crashed into an unoccupied Lafayette home Thursday morning before catching fire.
Fire crews responded to the scene around 9:45 am in 100 block of Benoit Falgout Drive on October 8.
Upon arrival firefighters say the unoccupied mobile home and the vehicle were engulfed in flames.
First responders were able to extinguish the fire within fifteen minutes, they say.
According to firefighters, the home and vehicle sustained heavy fire damage.
Fire investigators say they determined that the vehicle was stolen sometime Wednesday night.
In an attempt to evade police officers, firefighters say the suspects entered the property of the dwelling and apparently crashed into the home. The vehicle ignited and subsequently caught the home on fire.
The fire department says that the suspects left the scene prior to emergency personnel arriving.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS or the Lafayette Fire Department at 291-8716.
