LEF Award finalists announced

LAFAYETTE, La. - Today, Lafayette Education Foundation announced 16 finalists out of almost 1000 nominees for the LEF Awards.

Teachers will be honored in an Academy Awards-style ceremony held at the Heymann Performing Arts Center, complete with red carpet interviews and live entertainment, on January 29, 2020.

Nominations were submitted by the general public, fellow educators, parents and current or former students for active educators, regardless of how many years have passed since the person was impacted by the educator.

Nominees are active PreK4 - 12th-grade educators in Lafayette Parish public, charter, private or parochial schools.

Here are the finalist:

Elementary:

- Alyshia Boagni (Evangeline Elementary)

- Sara Cook (Prairie Elementary)

- Ellen LeJeune (Our Lady of Fatima)

- Casey Norris (Katharine Drexel)

Middle School:

- Paul Conover (Paul Breaux Middle)

- Juanita Hall (Carencro Middle)

- Jason Muller (LJ Alleman)

- Leah Williams (Youngsville Middle)

High School:

- Lauren Bourgeois (Acadiana High)

- Brandi Clay (Northside High)

- Karla Landry (Comeaux High)

- Zachary Welch (Acadiana High)

Inspirational:

- Tommy DeBlieux (Cathedral-Carmel)

- Julia Lopez (Charles Burke Elementary)

- Brian Watkins (St. Thomas More)

- Leola Woods (Milton Elementary)
