LAFAYETTE, La. — The Lafayette Economic Development Authority has released its data on taxable sales in the Lafayette area from March 2020.

With more than $509 million in taxable sales in March, 2020 year-to-date taxable sales reached $1.49 billion, according to LEDA. Year-to-date sales were 1.18% lower than March 2019; however, they were 3.65% higher than March 2018.

“Taxable sales through February held steady with strong 2019 numbers; however, March brought a new reality for shoppers and retailers across Acadiana, Louisiana and the U.S.,” said LEDA President and CEO Gregg Gothreaux. “We all have a role to play in supporting our local businesses and their employees—who are our friends, families and neighbors. I encourage you to continue supporting your favorite local retailer, restaurant or service provider, in whatever way to you can, over the coming weeks and months.”

LEDA says total taxable sales were up 3.96% in Carencro; 1.64% in Youngsville; and 19.88% in unincorporated areas of Lafayette pParish. Sales are down in Lafayette (3.50%), Broussard (1.52%), Duson (17.72%) and Scott (4.23%).

Sales tax collection numbers are gathered by the Lafayette Parish School System.
