LAFAYETTE, La. — The Lafayette Consolidated Government have announced that its contractor, DRC Emergency Services, will begin picking up storm debris from Hurricane Laura on Thursday, Sept. 3.

According to a release, Lafayette Parish has been divided into 18 cleanup zones with the first collection beginning in zones 1, 8 and 10 where debris volume is largest.

LCG says that DRC will complete two passes in all zones with the first round expected to take up to three weeks to complete, weather permitting.

The number of trucks will be modified according to debris volume as residents continue to discard materials, the release states.

Residents can monitor progress and reference zones, truck locations and areas where crews have removed debris by clicking on the following link:

LCG states that debris should be separated by yard waste - that includes sticks, branches, limbs, logs, tree trunks, leaves, and plants - and construction debris including fencing, building materials, drywall and lumber.

Debris is taken to different waste sites, so LCG says that residents should be mindful of placing yard waste and construction debris into separate piles at the curb.

Yard waste that is bagged or put into containers should also be placed in separate piles.

Because trucks are equipped with a powerful claw and have the potential to cause damage, LCG advises residents to avoid placing debris around areas including: water meters, telephone and cable lines, utility power poles, guy wires attached to the ground that stabilize utility poles, street signs and fire hydrants.
