A Louisiana law firm is giving away masks on Friday.

"As Louisiana works to open its doors, many citizens will need masks to protect themselves against the virus and follow guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention," a release from Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys states. "According to the CDC website, "CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission."

The firm has been able to obtain 2,000 masks and will be giving them away Friday in Lafayette to help people here stay safe.

Anyone who is in need of a free mask can pick one up. It will be a drive-through pick up.

The event begins at 10 a.m. at the law firm office, 2505 Verot School Road. The masks will be given out until they run out; it's a first-come, first-served basis.

“There is a need, a desperate need, and we want to help our community in any way we can," McKernan says.

Additionally, individuals that visit during the mask giveaway will have the chance to receive a $100.00 gift card for groceries at Super 1 Foods.

"We are truly grateful for the support of the community and our clients during this time and want to give back by helping families in need."

Ten families will be randomly selected to receive the $100.00 gift cards to purchase essentials.
