On Friday, the LaPlace Neighborhood Historic Walk will take place in Lafayette.
The neighborhood is home to the oldest black Catholic church and school that educated black children in the city. During the event, city leaders will unveil historical markers noting the area's significance.
"its a story that must be told, its a story that must be passed on to our children, and it really builds a sense of self esteem, that if our ancestors who faced such odds could do so much, whats preventing us from achieving today," says Carlos Harvin, LCG Chief of Minority Affairs.
On Thursday, Good Morning Acadiana will be live in the neighborhood with more details about the walk.
