LUS will reinstate late payment charges following the lifting of the moratorium on service disconnects.
The Lafayette Utilities System says they suspended service disconnects and late payment penalties for LUS customers after Governor John Bel Edwards declared a statewide Public Health Emergency in March 2020.
LUS says that utility customers have until October 16, 2020 to apply for a payment arrangement that would spread their existing utility bill balance across multiple monthly payments for up to six months.
To make a payment arrangement, customers can visit www.lus.org and click the link at the top of the page to submit a request for payment arrangement. LUS says they respond to requests within 3-5 business days.
"As Lafayette's publicly owned utility, LUS will continue its mission of providing reasonable utility rates and reliable services to the community," a statement reads.
