Road crews in Lafayette are preparing ahead of wintry weather expected to impact the Acadiana area over the next several days.

Crews with LCG's Traffic, Roads, and Bridges Department (TRAB) worked with the Lafayette Police Department to stage barricades at all bridges in the parish that cross the Vermilion River, as well as other overpasses that might potentially freeze, such as the Ambassador Caffery overpass at I-10. TRAB workers will also apply a saltwater brine solution and road salt to the bridge decks in an attempt to prevent them from freezing over. City and parish roads will be monitored by law enforcement officers who will coordinate with TRAB crews if roads become too icy and dangerous for vehicle traffic.

Bucket truck and tree-trimmer crews are also on standby. The department is also prepared to staff additional personnel to assist with dispatch and recovery operations. To report iced-over roads or fallen tree limbs, call 337-291-8517. The dispatch line is active 24/7.
