Lafayette Police have arrested a man following a shooting Wednesday night at a Planet Fitness.
Police say that at approximately 9:00 pm officers were dispatched to the parking lot of the Planet Fitness on the NE Evangeline Thruway.
There, officers located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. First aid was started by first responders and the victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Police say his injuries are non-life threatening.
A suspect, 27-year-old Bryant Batiste, was identified by police and detained. He was taken to the police department for questioning and was later booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on a charge of attempted second degree murder.
Police say their investigation revealed that there was allegedly a verbal altercation between the victim and Batiste during a child custody exchange.
The altercation allegedly became violent when Batiste produced a handgun and allegedly shot the victim.
The investigation is ongoing.
