Lafayette Police are investigating after a body was found in a coulee Friday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the police department says the body was found by an LCG work crew at around 1:00 pm along Hillside Drive in Lafayette.

Police now say that the crew was cleaning a nearby coulee when they picked up what they believed was garbage and put it into a nearby dumpster. Shortly after, they realized something was wrong, discovered the body, and called 911.

"As soon as they realized it was a deceased male, they contacted law enforcement," said Sgt. Wayne Griffin with LPD. "This is a very quiet neighborhood, so you can imagine when we get a call like this in this area, we're a little surprised."

The person was unable to be identified at this time. The death is currently being treated as suspicious.

An investigation is ongoing.
