LAFAYETTE, La. — The Lafayette Parks and Recreation Department is inviting Lafayette Parish residents ages 50 and older to its “Movin’ on to Mobile” senior walking program.

The program is similar to the "Walking to New Orleans" program held over the summer.

According to a release, the goal is to walk 145 miles, which is the distance from Café du Monde in New Orleans to Mobile, Alabama.

Walkers can join the group anytime between Wednesday, Oct. 14 and Jan. 6, 2021, when the program ends.

Walkers can walk together, socially distanced, at Girard Park, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. or can walk on their own, anywhere, anytime.

The release stays that anyone joining the program should download the free Nike Run Club app to enter the challenge. The app tracks miles walked and the progress of fellow walkers.
