The Lafayette Parish NAACP has elected new officers to leadership positions for 2021.

On November 12, members of the Lafayette Parish NAACP Unit #6060 elected four new officers including president, vice presidents and chapter secretary.

The newly elected officers were installed at the NAACP's December 3 general membership meeting.

The officers are:
President: Prince Olugbenga J. Shomade
1st Vice President: Ariel M. Lemelle
2nd Vice President: Michael Toussaint
Secretary: Karen Babineaux

“We are thrilled to see the great work we do for our community continue, and proud of the commitment from our newly elected officers to lead the charge,” said Marja Broussard current President of the chapter. “While I will still remain involved as State Vice President for our district, I’m confident our chapter is in the best of hands locally.”

Shomade said that he is excited and honored to serve the community and members as the next president.

“So much work has been done, but we have more left to accomplish," he said. "I am grateful for the wonderful work President Broussard has done for the community over the past 8 years as president; therefore, I pray to serve with dignity and respect while upholding the constitutional right of citizens.”
