UPDATE: Lafayette-Parish Council approves changes to pay raise procedure

The Lafayette City-Parish Council has a full agenda at Tuesday's meeting.

Among the agenda items, the council approved an ordinance that would change the procedure for council members to get pay raises. Council members William Theriot and Jared Bellard say their proposal would increase transparency in the city-parish government.

The resolution requires council members to introduce an ordinance when they want to accept a pay raise approved by the council.

The council will also consider several introductory ordinances.

The council will also consider several introductory ordinances. One ordinance is for the the city-parish council to authorize the mayor-president to extend the term of the electric franchise agreement between consolidated government and the City of Broussard.

Council members will discuss a wholesale water agreement between the city-parish and the City of Broussard.

Another topic will be the acceptance of federal funds for housing related to Katrina and Rita, Lafayette City Marshal's Office expenses and a special meeting to transfer funding to buy a new police K9 officer.
