Lafayette music teacher named MTNA Foundation Fellow

Chan Kiat Lim, NCTM, of Lafayette was honored by Music Teachers National Association as an MTNA Foundation Fellow during the 2020 MTNA Virtual Conference.

The Music Teachers National Association Fellow program offers a method of recognition for individuals who have made outstanding contributions to music teaching. The award is bestowed when a peer or group of peers donates $1,500 to the foundation in an individual's name.

Lim is professor of piano at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and the recipient of the University's Distinguished Professor Award and LMTA's Outstanding Teacher Award. He has performed in Canada, China, Germany, Greece, Italy, Jamaica, Malaysia, Romania and throughout the USA, including solo recitals at Steinway Hall. An enthusiastic interpreter of works by American composers, Lim can be heard on An American Kaleidoscope. He is the coauthor of multimedia curriculum eNovativePiano and has served as clinician, presenter and artist at state, national and international conferences. A performer-pedagogue, Lim has guided students to top prizes in national and international competitions. He is MTNA's webinar coordinator.

The Music Teachers National Association Virtual Conference was held in lieu of the association's annual national conference, which was scheduled for March 21-25, 2020.

MTNA is a nonprofit organization of some 20,000 independent and collegiate music teachers committed to furthering the art of music through teaching, performance, composition and scholarly research. Founded in 1876, MTNA is the oldest professional music teachers association in the United States.
