Lafayette Mayor President Josh Guillory has declared and emergency for the parish ahead of the winter weather next week.
"Lafayette Parish is faced with the threat of widespread freezing temperatures, precipitation leading to icy conditions on roadways and surfaces, high winds leading to wind chills well below freezing, and a stress on Lafayette Parish’s infrastructure as a result of the expected long duration of these conditions, all caused by the effects of a severe winter storm in Lafayette Parish," the declaration reads.
The declaration will help with immediate emergency actions that may be required to minimize the imminent effects of this severe weather event.
