LAFAYETTE, La. — The the family of Trayford Pellerin along with their attorneys met with Lafayette Mayor-President John Guillory Friday morning saying that they invited him to attend Pellerin's funeral and that Guillory accepted.

According to the family's attorneys, if Guillory commits to his promises then Lafayette will be in good hands.

The attorneys said Friday that Guillory was sincere and that the meeting was about the Pellerin family.

They added that Guillory also said he will start making phone calls now to be able to release all footage of the “tragedy.”

The attorneys say if he doesn’t follow through with his commitments, then they will be meeting again in the near future.

Guillory attorneys were not present, therefore they did not discuss the legal side of the events.

The family said they feel this meeting was long overdue, however they do feel as though they got things accomplished.

"We do recognize there were several statements from the mayor in the beginning," said the family's attorney. "Mayor was unequivocal, apologized how he came out in the situation, and not only is willing to work with the family, but the community at large."

Pellerin was fatally shot by police on Aug. 21 after he allegedly attempted to enter an occupied convenience store along the NW Evangeline Thruway while armed with a knife.
