Events usually held for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in Lafayette have been canceled for 2021 due to COVID-19, the city's Martin Luther King Holiday Committee has confirmed.

Gerald Boudreaux, chairman of the Martin Luther King Holiday Committee, said officials "would be unable to ensure all CDC guidelines would be followed so it's safest to postpone all MLK events for 2021."

The events typically consist of a three-day celebration of Dr. King. The city annually holds a parade on the Sunday before Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and has also featured a community luncheon, a program, a youth extravaganza, and more.
