Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop C responded to a crash on LA 3127 just east of LA 640. Two people were killed in the crash - Lonnie Doucet, 44, of Lafayette and Mindi Becnel, 38, of Boutte.
The crash occurred shortly before 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20.
Police say Doucet was traveling west on LA 3127 while Becnel was traveling east on LA 3127. For unknown reasons, Doucet crossed the center line and struck Becnel's vehicle.
Both drivers were properly restrained, but sustained fatal injuries. Impairment is unknown and toxicology reports are pending.
Both were pronounced deceased on scene by the St. John the Baptist Parish Coroner's Office.
The crash remains under investigation.
