An unoccupied home in Lafayette sustained heavy damage during a fire on Friday morning.

The Lafayette Fire Department says that firefighters responded around 6:17 am on January 29 to a house fire in the 600 block of Lafayette Street.

Firefighters say neighbors noticed smoke coming from a bedroom window and called 911.

Once on scene, the department says firefighters observed flames coming from a side window of the single family home.

A search of the home for occupants found that the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

Firefighters say the flames were brought under control within fifteen minutes.

The home sustained heavy fire damage and firefighters say the tenant was not home at the time of the fire.

Fire officials determined the fire started in a bedroom.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
