Lafayette City Court officials have released the following regarding court operations:
The Judges of the City Court of Lafayette and the City Marshal are monitoring the evolving COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation. The Judges are working closely with the Lafayette Consolidated Government officials to get relevant information as soon as available. AS OF NOW, THE COURT REMAINS OPEN FOR BUSINESS WITH NO RESTRICTIONS ON COURT SESSIONS. As of this date, there are no known cases of COVID-19 in the Lafayette area and one known case in Louisiana. The judges have not been notified that the suspected person had any contact with the court. Obviously, all precautions should be taken should you have travelled to any of the affected areas.
The judges remind those having traffic tickets that most traffic tickets can be paid on line by using the Court’s website, https://www.citycourtlafayettela.org. There remain however some traffic offenses that are court mandatory. If your ticket is court mandatory, you will not be able to pay it online.

ARE THERE PLANS TO CLOSE THE COURT?
The Court remains open. The judges are monitoring alerts from the Lafayette Consolidated Government, the 15th Judicial District Court, the Louisiana Supreme Court, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Louisiana Office of Public Health.
I HAVE A COURT DATE SCHEDULED, MUST I APPEAR FOR COURT?
Yes, at this time, all sessions of court remain as scheduled.
HOW WILL I KNOW IF THE COURT IS CLOSED?
You should monitor this website, the Lafayette Bar Association website, https://www.lafayettebar.org, and all local news outlets for the latest information.
IF THE COURT CLOSES, WILL MY COURT DATE BE RESCHEDULED?
Yes, any session of court that is cancelled will be rescheduled. A new notice will be mailed to the address that is on file with the court. If your address has changed, you should provide the new address in writing to the court either by mail or in person if the court is open. The court’s mailing address is Post Office Box 3344, Lafayette, Louisiana 70502-3344. You should include your full name as it appears on your notice, your docket number and your new address including city, state and zip code. You can also provide a contact number and email address. All efforts will be made to contact each defendant so the more information that you provide the better the chance of contact.
